Our client, a global leading int the Construction industry, is looking to appoint a Mining Operations Manager to be based in Tete.

Job Purpose

The Mining Operations Director will hold ultimate responsibility for leading, coordinating, and optimizing all extraction, earthmoving, and logistics work fronts within our operations in Tete Province. This executive-level position requires a professional with a solid background in open cast mining operations, deeply focused on heavy fleet strategic management and complex bulk logistics supply chains. The primary focus of this role is operational efficiency, asset optimization, and volume throughput; a background or formal degree in Geology is explicitly not required.

ACTIVITIES

Heavy Equipment & Asset Management:

•    Oversee the sizing, strategic allocation, and overall productivity of the heavy mining production fleet, including large excavators, off-highway trucks, drills, and track tractors.

•    Maximize the physical availability (PA) and effective utilization of all field assets through close coordination with preventive/predictive maintenance and mechanical planning teams.

•    Monitor and analyze key asset performance indicators such as OEE, MTBF, and MTTR to aggressively reduce operational costs per ton moved.

Logistics & Supply Chain Management:

•    Coordinate internal mine logistics, ensuring optimal efficiency in load-and-haul cycles, stockpile management, and primary crusher or processing plant feeding.

•    Optimize the external bulk logistics supply chain and ore transport infrastructure up to rail terminals and port export corridors. Ensure robust logistical planning and supply security for critical site inputs, including fuel, lubricants, and high-wear ground engaging tools (GET) to eliminate production downtime.

Mine Operations & Production Leadership:

•    Guarantee strict compliance with daily, weekly, and monthly production tonnage targets in alignment with the approved short- and long-term mining plans.

•    Lead and develop large, diverse teams across production, planning, and maintenance divisions, fostering a high-performance working culture.

•    Impart and enforce an uncompromising Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) culture on-site, driving all teams toward a strict “Zero Harm” milestone

QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCED REQUIRED

•    Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial management, or logistics engineering.

•    Minimum of 12 to 15 years of proven track record within the mining industry or mega-scale earthmoving operations, with at least 5 years serving in an executive Operations Director or senior Operations Manager capacity.

•    Specialized Expertise: Solid, hands-on knowledge of open-cast mining fleet optimizations, heavy equipment maintenance strategies, and bulk commodity logistical corridors.

•    Languages: Native or full professional fluency in Portuguese and fluent/advanced proficiency in English are mandatory for corporate reporting and stakeholder alignment.

•    Systems & Software: Strong familiarity with corporate asset/fleet management software (such as SAP) and modular field dispatch operating systems.

•    High-Impact Operational Command: Proven ability to manage massive production field setups and make decisive operational choices under heavy pressure.

•    Analytical & Cost Vision: Intense focus on bottom-line cost per ton reductions through systematic asset and cycle optimization.

•    Proactive Field Resolution: Highly agile in diagnosing and resolving sudden mechanical bottlenecks or logistical disruptions directly on the ground.
